Our Favorite Door County Winter Activities

Cross Country Skiing

Door County boasts nearly 50 miles of trails in their state parks to explore. Most of these trails offer some of the most stunning views in the Midwest. This is also a favorite activity for many winter visitors, and we’re sure you’ll love it as well! Whether you are a beginner or an experienced skier, you will find a trail that is perfect for your skill level. If you need ski equipment, you will be able to rent from Bay Shore Outfitters or Nor Door Sports.

Snowshoeing

This is another great activity for exploring the beauty of winter in Door County’s great outdoors. It is also one of the easiest excursions to do after heavy snowfall. Many of the parks contain snowshoeing trails, including conserved properties such as Crossroads at Big Creek and the Door County Land Trust. Ridges Sanctuary is also known to host snowshoe hikes during the winter, giving you the perfect opportunity to experience parts of the ecosystem you can only find in the sanctuary.

Take a Walk on the Beach

While beaches are primarily a summer destination, Door County beaches are just as magical during the winter season. The glittering ice stacks, light blankets of snow, and dunes waving in the chill breeze are just some of the sights to see. You may also be greeted by local wildlife such as hawks and flocks of turkeys. It’s a great way to enjoy a romantic stroll in an uncrowded environment.

Shopping

After you’ve spent some time in the outdoors, it’s time to explore the region’s unique stores! Shopping is one of the most popular Door County winter activities. It keeps you warm and also presents an opportunity to find the perfect holiday gifts. Liberty Square is a charming center and was the winner of the best shopping experience in Door County. Fish Creek is also home to a few centers that are ideal for finding souvenirs and other unique products.

Door County Winter Festival

If you’ll be visiting Door County early next year, you’ll want to add the Door County Winter Festival to your vacation to-do’s. Celebrating its 29th year, this fun-filled event will feature a kickball tournament, romantic candlelight skiing, a chili cook-off, Fruit Loop Run, and more!
